Judy M. Backus

Livonia - Judy M. Backus, (Cavigliano), 51, died Oct. 12, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born the daughter of Dominick and Marie Weaver Cavigliano on Oct. 1, 1955 in Rochester. She worked for many years as a waitress at her family restaurant, Maxims. She was predeceased by her father Max Cavigliano, brother Don Cavigliano and sister Jackie (Bourg) Cavigliano. She is survived by her husband, Anthony; her sons, Phillip Kyle and Justin Shepard; grandchildren, Jackson and Leah Backus; her mother, Marie Cavigliano, all of Livonia; grandmother Dorothy Weaver of Geneseo; brothers, John Cavigliano of Tucson, Ariz., James (Anna) Lewis of Orlando, Fla., Ron Cavigliano of Lakeville; sisters, Julie LePome of Livonia and Jo (Richard) Zelie of Vero Beach, Fla.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and very dear friend Patty Roots of Phoenix, Ariz. Friends called Sunday at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., Route 15 in Livonia. Her Funeral Mass was held Monday at St. Matthew Church, Route 20A in Livonia. Burial, Oakridge Cemetery, South Livonia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Livingston County Hospice, 2 County Campus, Mt. Morris NY 14510.

Gerlene M. Clar

Geneseo resident

Gerlene M. “Geri” Clar, 59, of Tuscarora Ave. in Geneseo, died Oct. 14, 2006 at the Teresa House in Geneseo. She is survived by her companion Richard Periano of Geneseo; her children, Robert (Debbie) Clar of Geneseo, Patricia (John) Tinker of Leicester, Brenda (Basil) Hoy of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; grandchildren, Samantha, Cassie, Jacob and Zachary Clar, Fawn DeGraff, Jake, Jamie and Aaron Tinker, Taylor Hoy; her mother Mildred Eyler of Oregon; six sisters; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born July 7, 1947 in White Plains, N.Y., the daughter of Jessie West and Mildred Washburn Eyler. Visitation was held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Oct. 17 where Memorial Services were held following calling with Rev. Donald Vogel of the First Congregational Church of Perry Center officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Teresa House, 21 Highland Rd., Geneseo NY 14454.

Joseph Fici

Joseph Fici, 94, of 82 Stanley St. in Mt. Morris died Sept. 20, 2006 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris. He was born in Marysville, Ill. on March 8, 1912, the son of Michael Fici and Mary Leon. He was predeceased by his wife Loretta. Prior to retirement he was employed at SUNY Geneseo. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Mt. Morris. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carole Fici of Livonia; grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister Jenny Prinzi of Mt. Morris; nieces, nephew and cousins. Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass, Saturday, Oct. 21 at St. Patrick's Church in Mt. Morris at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John H. Hayes and Deacon George Spezzano officiating. Burial, St. Patrick's Cemetery in Mt. Morris. Friends wishing may make memorial contributions at the Mt. Morris Ambulance Fund, Mt. Morris NY 14510. Arrangements, Kevin W. Jack Reuben Goetz

Jack Goetz, 76, died Oct. 3, 2006. He was born May 19, 1930. He grew up in Retsof. His father Reuben was the International Salt Mine Plant Engineer (1930-1965 era). Jack graduated from York Central School and obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Syracuse University. He worked for Hooker Chemical in Buffalo, Welch Grape Juice Company in Michigan, Carling Brewery in Cleveland, Ohio. G. Heileman Brewery in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Anheuser Busch in St. Louis, Mo. and Stroh Brewery in Detroit, Mich. He designed breweries and was responsible for construction and installation of equipment. In most cases he was the head engineer. In retirement he and his family lived in Arab, Ala. because Jack liked to go boating along the Tennessee River. He also loved golf and fishing. He was active in the Arab Rotary club where he helped to develop a program to assist disabled children. He also conducted a horse show to raise funds for this. He was president of the local home-owners association. He was a member of the Arab United Methodist Church. He was a Mason, Lodge #25 in Paw-Lawton, Mich. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sally Ann of Arab; two sons and daughter-in-law, John Martin Goetz of Arab and Richard and Christine Goetz of California; grandchildren, Daniel Blair Goetz and Katherine Patricia Goetz. He is survived by a sister Lillian (Richard) Barrett of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Locally he is survived by his sister Nancy (Don) Coleman of Honeoye, a niece Gretchen (Peter) Daley of Colorado and three nephews, Rob, Greg and Aaron Donnan of York.

Gerald A. Hopkins

Army veteran

Gerald “Jerry” A. Hopkins, 76, of 8750 ScHe was born on July 28, 1930 in Leicester, the son of Willis and Geraldine (Waite) Hopkins. Prior to his retirement in 1990 he was employed as a Therapy Aid at Craig Developmental Center in Sonyea and for Fingerlakes DDSO for nearly 20 years. He was a veteran of the army from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of CSEA, former member of the Hally-Allen American Legion Post #1341 in Sonyea and was an avid bowler. He is survived by his wife Frances; six children, David of West Sparta, Barb (Gurden) Barnett of NE, Bob (Laura) of Mt, Steve (Pam), Don (Linda) and Sharon (Steve) Coniglio, all of Mt. Morris; four step children, Pat (Bill) Jensen of Phelps, Sandy (Tony) Colon of Nunda, Jim (Monica) Decker of Dansville and Diane (Wayne) Saxton of Canandaigua; 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; one brother Carol (Teresa) Hopkins of Bliss; several nieces and nephews. Friends called Friday at the John W. Martin Funeral Home, 37 Chapel St. (Route 408) in Mt. Morris. Funeral Services were held Saturday. Interment, Leicester Cemetery. Catherine P. Stewart

Caledonia resident

Catherine P. Stewart “Katie”, 80, of Caledonia, passed away suddenly on Oct. 11, 2006 after a long illness. The daughter of John E. and Elma Shelton, Katie was born Nov. 22, 1925 in Warsaw, N.Y. She retired from Chloride Electro Networks in Caledonia and was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Mumford. She is survived by her husband, John Stewart of Caledonia; son, Calvin (Janice) Stewart of Chili; sisters, Arlene (Robert) Williams of North Chili, Marjorie Carpenter, Betty McClenney, both of Caledonia; brothers, Marvin (Athene) Shelton of Rochester, Horace Shelton of Caledonia; several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Her parents and sister, Louise Cramatie predeceased her. Friends called Oct. 13 at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St. in Caledonia. Her Funeral Service was held Oct. 14 at the Second Baptist Church in Mumford. Interment, Mumford Rural Cemetery.
