Elizabeth M. Leone

Mt. Morris resident

Elizabeth M. Leone, 91, of 19 N. Main St. in Mt. Morris, died Feb. 11, 2005 at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home in Livonia. She was born the daughter of Jacob and Minnie (Saurbier) Morsch on Feb. 2, 1914 in Wayland. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Mt. Morris. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Vogt of Nunda, Diane Campisano of Henrietta, Mary Watts of Fairport, Janet (Joe) Daly of Avon, Sandra (Andrew) deWilde of Leicester and Carol McAdam of Chili; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister Rita Myers of Lockport and brother Jacob (Catherine) Morsch of Dansville; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Samuel and daughter Sharon. Friends called Sunday at the John W. Martin Funeral Home, 37 Chapel St. (Route 408) in Mt. Morris where prayers were said Monday followed by a Funeral Mass with Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery. Virginia Ryan

DuPont retiree

Florida/Rochester/Wayland - Virginia Y. Ryan, 78, of 15390 Hart Road, North Fort Myers, Fla., passed away Feb. 7, 2005 at the Southwest Florida Regional Medical Central in Fort Myers, Fla. She was born Oct. 23, 1926 in Mt. Morris, the daughter of Herman and Alma (Starr) Schubmehl. At a very young age, Virginia's mother passed away and she was adopted and raised by George and Julia Yohon of Wayland. She resided in Wayland through the early years of her life prior to moving to Rochester where she lived for over 50 years. Virginia moved to the warm weather of North Fort Myers in 1994. Virginia and Robert Ryan entered into a loving marriage on June 17, 1967 at the Holy Rosary Church in Rochester. Together they celebrated over 16 years of marriage prior to his passing away on Jan. 19, 1984. Virginia's entire employment career was spent at the Dupont Company in Rochester. She worked there as an inspector and retired after 35 years in 1985. She was a member of the Rosary Society, the Redman Club and the Golden Agers. She was also a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Rochester and St. Francis Church in Fort Myers. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma (Charles) Mehlenbacher, Frances (Gary) Pulver and Caroline (Louie) Pragel. Virginia is survived by her brother Herman Schubmehl and his wife Ann of Patchinsville/Wayland; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends called Saturday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 W. Naples St., Wayland. A prayer service was conducted at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Virginia Saturday at St. Joseph's Church in Wayland. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, at the convenience of her family.

Luella C. Shurtleff

Retired telephone operator

Luella C. “Peggy” Shurtleff, 79, a retired telephone operator for Rochester Telephone's Geneseo office, died Feb. 10, 2005, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Mrs. Shurtleff resided on Genesee St. in Piffard. She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Nick) Macaluso of Leicester, Diana (David) Gurak of Livonia; four grandchildren, John and Nicole Macaluso, Lisa and Erica Gurak; great granddaughter Bryanna Macaluso; sister-in-law Ann Shurtleff of Mt. Morris; nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Shurtleff and three sisters, Virginia Griffin, Elizabeth Brick and Gladys Kear. She was born Dec. 15, 1925 in Geneseo the daughter of Edward and Delia Averill Clerk. She was a graduate of Geneseo High School. She retired from Rochester Telephone May 15, 1982 after 36 years of service at their Geneseo office. Visitation was held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Sunday where Funeral Services were held Feb. 14 with Rev. Calvin Sheasley officiating. Burial, Leicester Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 435 E. Lois M. Whitford

Danvsville resident

Dansville - Lois M. Whitford, 79, of Route 36 South, died Feb. 8, 2005 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville where she was admitted on Sunday. She was born July 24, 1925 in Hornellsville, the daughter of the late William and Ethel (McDaniels) McDaniel. She was married Dec. 4, 1945 in Bath, N.Y. to Harold E. Whitford who died Aug. 20, 2000, after 54 years of marriage. Lois had been employed as a supervisor at Westinghouse in Bath for several years. She and Harold were the co-owners and operators of the White Horse Crest in Dansville for 25 years. Lois enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved to play Bingo. Besides her husband Harold, Lois was predeceased by three sisters, Marie Pierce, Rita Whitford and Barbara Buckholz; three brothers, Lewis, Roy and Richard McDaniel; a sister-in-law, Beverly McDaniel and a special nephew Billy McDaniel. She is survived by one son Royce Whitford of Dansville; one daughter Diane (Pat) Kenney of Dansville; one sister Ruth Smith of Hornell; one brother, Lyle McDaniel of Arkport; a sister-in-law Shirley McDaniel of Dansville; a brother-in-law LaFrone Buckholz of Arkport; two grandchildren, Todd (Stacie) Faulds of Florida and Brandi Kenney (Shawn) of Springwater; two great grandchildren, Jayson and Lauren Faulds, both of Florida. Friends called Thursday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 W. Naples St. in Wayland where Funeral Services were held Friday with the Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial, Arkport Cemetery.
