Gerald D. Levey

West Sparta resident

Gerald D. Levey “Gerry,” 53, of Rock Spring Hill Road in West Sparta, died Jan. 27, 2006 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville after a long illness. He was born Sept. 21, 1952 in Dansville, the son of Gerald L and Caroline (Mastin) Levey. Gerry was married June 28, 1975 in Sonyea, N.Y. to Patricia (Huffman) Levey whom he has been married to for 30 years. He was a graduate of Mt. Morris Central School and the Craig Developmental School of Nursing. Gerry had been employed at the former Craig Developmental Center in Sonyea as a Registered Nurse for 10 years and had been employed for 25 years at the Veterans Administration Center in Bath where he had been serving as a Utilization Management Nurse. Gerry was a former bus driver at Dansville Central School where he had worked for 17 years. Gerry had been a resident of the Town of West Sparta for many years, where he volunteered and served the residents of the town in many different capacities. He served on the Town of West Sparta Planning Board, West Sparta Recreational Program, Board of Assessment and Review (BAR), and a former member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. One of Gerry's great loves was the fire service. He was a member of the West Sparta Volunteer Fire Department where he was serving a chief of the department since 2003 and had previously served from 1991-1995. He was presently serving as treasurer and co-chairman of the Board of Directors. He was a member and past president of the LCVFA, serving on the finance committee, and 14 years as chairman of the firefighter of the year committee, current president of the LCFCA, where he served on the E911 committee and the finance committee. Gerry's memberships in the fire service also included, WNYVFA, FASNY, and the NYSAFC. Besides the fire service, Gerry had volunteered as a soccer coach, Little League coach for nine years and the Wayland-Cohocton Sports Club. Besides all of his volunteer time, Gerry enjoyed camping and boating, especially up north in the St. Lawrence River area. He was predeceased by a sister, Gail Ann Levey in 1951. He is survived by his loving wife Pat, at home; and his parents, Gerald and Caroline Levey of West Sparta; three sons, Michael W., Gerad D., and Patrick L. Levey, all of West Sparta; an Exchange son Marco A. Maluf Martins of Londrina, Brazil; a sister, Gloria (Ray) Johnson of Lockport; three sisters-in-law, Doris (Bob) Marsch of Nunda, Janet (Jerry Lee) Hartman of West Sparta and Lisa (Rickey) Neu of Cohocton. Friends called Monday and Tuesday at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, Inc., 111 Main St. in Geneseo where a fireman's prayer service was held Tuesday evening. Funeral Services, Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the West Sparta United Methodist Church, Redmond Road in West Sparta. Burial, Oaklawn Cemetery in West Sparta. In lieu of flowers friends who wish may make memorial contribution to the West Sparta Volunteer Fire Department, 4451 Red School Road, Dansville NY 14437.

Michael Joseph McCormick

Avon - Michael J. McCormick, 47, died suddenly on Jan. 15, 2006 in Panama City, Panama. Mr. McCormick was born on May 5, 1958 in Rochester the son of Michael and Carol McCormick. He was predeceased by his mother Carol McCormick in 2005. In 1998 Michael founded the Internet Base Pharmaceutical Import Company, MatureMeds.Org. He has authored and published several books on health care issues and was an advocate for affordable medications for senior citizens. He had a passion for physical fitness conditioning and training others. Michael will be missed by all those he helped and whose lives he touched. He is survived by his father Michael J. McCormick of Avon; brothers, Tim (Erika) McCormick of Rhode Island, Patrick (Barbara) McCormick of Avon, Mark (Mary) McCormick of Ohio; sister Molly (John) Caltabiano of MA; 14 nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles and cousins; his companion Stephanie Dyar of Panama City, Panama. Calling hours were held Jan. 27 at the Stephenson-Dougherty, Inc. in Avon. His Funeral Mass was held Jan. 28 with Rev. Symon Peter Ntairyia officiating. Interment, St. Agnes Cemetery in Avon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Livingston County Catholic Charities, 10 Chapel St., Mt. Morris NY 14510.

Richard J. O'Connor

U.S. Army veteran

Livonia/Honeoye Lake - Richard J. O'Connor, 58, died Jan. 27, 2006 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy (McTarnaghan); son David (Theresa) O'Connor of Baltimore; daughters, Kathleen (Kory) MacGeorge of Waterloo and Karen O'Connor of West Henrietta; grandchildren, Dylan, Delaney and Dustin O'Connor; sister, Patricia of Las Vegas; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Clifford) Frank of Tonawanda. Dick was a recent Kodak/ITT Industries retiree, having served a combined 34 years. He graduated from East Rochester High School in 1965, SUNY Alfred and Rochester Institute of Technology. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1972. Dick spent the majority of his summers at the family cottage on Honeoye Lake. Family and friends called Tuesday at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., Route 15, Livonia. His Funeral Mass, Wednesday 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, Route 20A in Livonia. His final place of rest, St. Michael's Cemetery, Livonia. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Livonia Public Library or St. Matthew Church.

Amy L. Sayle

Amy L. Sayle, 56, a sales representative for Team Cheer in Geneseo, died suddenly, Jan. 21, 2006 at her residence on Preston Road in Dansville. She is survived by her son Thomas (Lisa) Sayle of Rock Hill, S.C.; her father LaVerne Sayle of Dansville; two sisters, Jane (Jerry) Williams of Dansville, Penny (Tim) Simpson of Niagara Falls; aunts,uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Wager and her brother Chris Wager. She was born Aug. 9, 1949 in Niagara Falls the daughter of LaVerne and Dorothy Johnson Wager. Visitation was held Jan. 28 at Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo where Funeral Services followed calling. Memorials may be made to Amy's family to establish a scholarship fund in her name and may be directed to her son Thomas Sayle at 2224 Planters Court, Rock Hill, S.C. 29732.

Mable M. Schneider

Honeoye - Mable M. Schneider, 79, died suddenly Jan. 27, 2006. She is survived by her lifetime companion Charles Young of Florida; sister, Ernestine Thomann of Irondequoit; brother, Donald (Marge) Schneider of Honeoye; nieces, Jill (Mark) Fornalik, Cynthia (Jack) Boyd, Georgia and Lesley Schneider; nephews, Eric, Larry and Kurt (Fe) Thomann, Daniel (Betty Lou) Schneider and William (Wendy) Schneider; several great nieces and great nephews. No prior calling. Family and friends attended a memorial service Tuesday at the Honeoye United Church of Christ. The family requests the courtesy of no flowers and memorials may be made to the Richmond Fire and Ambulance Fund or the SANDS Cancer Center in Canandaigua. Reference: Kevin W. Tasha M. Shaver

Tasha M. Shaver, 11, a 4th grade student at Geneseo Central School, died Jan. 29, 2006 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Miss Shaver resided on Meadow Dr. in Geneseo. She is survived by her mother Debra Gelser of Geneseo; father Donald Shaver Jr. of Mt. Morris; brother Leon Shaver of Hemlock; aunts and uncles, Peg and Ron Webb of Swain, Dale and Janet Gelser of Angelica, Dick and Diane Gelser of Angelica, Clayton and Patti Howard of Balston Spa, N.Y.; Donna and Jeff Marsh of Livonia, Jenny and Bill Smith of Mt. Morris, Jay and BB Shaver of Mt. Morris, Val and Charley Provose of Dansville, Heidi and Dave Cavet of Bradford, Pa. and Janet and Bill Lowan of Florida. Tasha was born Sept. 24, 1994 at St. James Hospital in Hornell, N.Y. the daughter of Debra Gelser and Donald Shaver Jr. She was a member of the GCS Chorus having sung in the Christmas Concert at School. She was an avid fan of the Geneseo State Ice Knights Hockey Team. Visitation at Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home with Bishop Edward Abbott of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Geneseo officiating. Burial will be in Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the family at 1 Meadow Dr., Geneseo NY 14454.
