Stephen J. Clary

Retired Caledonia Postmaster

Stephen J. Clary, 74, of Caledonia, died Dec. 27, 2005 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. Steve was the Caledonia Postmaster from 1966-1988. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a past commander of both the Caledonia Matthew Cleary Post #255 and the Caledonia VFW Post 10844. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and was a member of St. Columba Church, Caledonia Country Club, and worked part-time at Ace Hardware in Caledonia. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, June; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Major Leonard Verhaeg of Ft. Riley, KS; grandchildren, Kyle and Morgan Verhaeg; sisters, Annabelle Weber of Caledonia, Gretchen Kellogg of LeRoy; sister-in-law, Shirley Clary of Houghton; several nieces and nephews. His brothers, Leo, James, Morris and Martin Clary predecease Steve. Friends called Friday at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St., Caledonia. His Funeral Mass was held Saturday, at St. Columba Church. Interment, St. Columba Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Focus on the Children, P.O. Box 31, Caledonia NY 14423.

Gertrude A. Rouse

Rochester City School retiree

Gertrude A. Rouse, 86, of 21 Strathmore Circle in Rochester, died Dec. 29, 2005 at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester. She was born the daughter of George and Blanche Rouse on May 28, 1919 in Springwater. She was employed by the Rochester City School District as a bus attendant. She was predeceased by her brother Glenn F. Whitney Sr. She is survived by her sisters Marguerite Rocco of Rome, Virginia (Tom) Sargeant of Livonia, Betty McLean of Leicester and Ruth Carter of Nevada; sister-in-law Lois Whitney of Penfield; special nieces Robin Brizzi and Sandy Waters; loving companion Ed Allis; several nieces and nephews (Ryan). She retired as a Bus Attendant for the Rochester City School District. No Prior calling. Graveside services to be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rochester General Hospital Dialysis Unit. Arr. Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home in Livonia.

Rodney H. Rowe

U.S. Army veteran

Rodney H. Rowe, 71, of Caledonia, died Dec. 13, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 12, 1934 in Rochester to Leon and Virginia Rowe. Mr. Rowe grew up in Avon. After moving to Caledonia, he and his wife, Sally bought and operated the Atlantic Gas Station for five years. Rod served the town of Caledonia for more than 25 years in various roles within the fire department and ambulance corps, working alongside M. Carl Offen to further integrate and bolster the role of women in the departments and especially on the ambulance corps. Rod was best known for his nine years of police work, garnering a reputation for un-compromised fairness and integrity. He was also a Teamster and worked many years as a driver for both St. Johnsbury Trucking and Meyers' Campers. He served his country's Army from 1954-1956. Rod spent his last two years retired, traveling the United States, restoring award winning vintage automobiles and caring for his family. He is survived by his wife, Sally; sons Christopher (Michelle Raffa), Casey, Kevin (Calley) and Craig (Karen). Friends and family called Dec. 15 at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St., Caledonia where his funeral service was held Dec. 16. His interment was held at St. Columba Cemetery. Memorials made be made to the Wilmont Cancer Center 601 Elmwood Ave, Box 704, Rochester NY 14642 or Scottsville Veterinary Hospital and Adoption, 3750 Scottsville Road, Scottsville NY 14546.

Mary Zimmerman

Mary Zimmerman, 54, of 52 Park Lawn Apartments in Honeoye, died Dec. 30, 2005 at her home. She was born the daughter of Raymond and Jennie (Caskey) Cook on May 17, 1951 in Canandaigua. She was employed as a waitress at several area restaurants including the Village Grill in Honeoye. She attended Allen's Hill Methodist Church. She is survived by her three children, Christopher Shumway, Jennifer Winfield and Adam Zimmerman, all of Honeoye; six grandchildren; her mother Jennie (James) Sullivan of Honeoye; three sisters, Joan Speer of WA, Shelley Schaff of Hemlock and Patti Schaff of Honeoye; brother Raymond Cook of Penfield; several nieces and nephews; her companion Tom Spoor of Honeoye. She was predeceased by her father Raymond Cook and brother Peter Cook. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 796 Briggs St., Honeoye. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Allen's Hill Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be used according to their wishes.
